Thinking ahead of time.
At last I’m turning 19 soon, and don’t get me wrong — I’m not entirely excited with getting older. Why? Because right now, the only thing that I can think of is that I’ve not lived life to its maximum potential enough yet, at least not the way I had expected it would be when I was still in my mother’s womb — you see, being lazy has its own disadvantages.
So instead of doing a birthday resolution, I’ll go bigger and do a lifetime one instead: that is, a list of things that I would love to complete at least once in my entire life.
If the header is in italics, it means that the item has been done so before and could be better with another try. Arranged in no certain orders, and not limited to, here they are :
- Watch the sun-rise and sun-set
-
Find a quiet and secluded place, such as the beach, then wait for hours in peace to witness the glory of the Sun, and enjoy the serenity of it all. Feel peace from within.
- See the northern lights
-
Unfortunately, this isn’t something that is possible in Singapore. I’ll have to pay some countries in the northern hemisphere a visit to watch these magnificent auroras in action.
I’ll have to get a lot more richer than I am now in order to do that though — I’ve gotta work hard for this! I know it’s going to be worth it.
- See shooting stars/meteorite showers
-
Though I have seen them in Singapore, but it wasn’t magnificent enough. They come in twos or threes every five to ten minutes and it isn’t fulfilling at all. I’m looking for the kind that happens whenever there’s a meteor passing by, or maybe I could wait till I’m 76 years old when ol’ faithful Halley Comet could show me what I ever wanted so much.
- Take a hot-air balloon ride
-
Never tried before. Well, just thought it would be cool to get up on one and go flying.
- Climb a mountain
-
Nothing is too big or too small to conquer. I’m not talking about Mount Everest but just some simple mountains (not hills, please). Of course, if possible, Mount Everest is still in my list.
- A horse-ride
-
I think it doesn’t count but I did it once on a pony back in the zoo when I was so much younger. Too bad someone was controlling the pony and I was just led one round in the enclosed area and that was it. Now I got greedy and I decided I needed more — such as riding on a real horse around the green pastures enjoying the cool breeze of the countryside on my face. If possible, cowboy suit will be the best.
- Take a walk in the rain
-
Sounds lame eh? But honestly, how many of us have enough time on hand to realise that rain is actually beautiful enough for us to just spend time watching it, not to mention even walking in it. C’mon, rain is but water. Extend your arms and feel the rain drops on your face. It feels good.
- Bungee jumping/Parachuting
-
The only reason why I put them together is so I will do either one of them and that’s good enough, considering that I have a phobia of height…
- Go whale-/dolphin-/shark-watching
-
Finally something that’s very sexy. After watching Free Willy back then, I decided that I need to accomplish these 3 creature-watching, somehow — they are too beautiful to be missed, seriously.
- Sleep under the stars
-
Yup, I’ve done this. But the next time I do so, I hope it will be under million of stars, not the pathetic amount that can be seen in Singapore.
- Witness a solar/lunar eclipse
-
Seen them both, but only partially. I’ll hope to go to a foreign country that has a full one. Lunar eclipses are easier, but solar ones are so much more difficult as their frequencies are low.
The last solar eclipse could be seen in full glory in Malaysia, but I couldn’t be there so I could only get to see the partial one in Singapore.
- Stay happy
-
Nothing that I hadn’t accomplished. But the goal is, stay happy all the way.
So many things to do, so much time! I must start planning as soon as possible already — I have so much lost time with the nature ever since I knew computers, and now it’s time to get some life being synchronised with nature again.
Maybe I should maintain the list with some simple php and see to it that I actually complete these items. Hmm, I think I really should.
