Customer Service.

I had breakfast. (Like who doesn’t?)

But this time I had to take away my orders, for myself and my family members. For me I had MacDonalds Big Breakfast, and for my family, they preferred nasi lemak. So be it — it’s only a few more steps to the nasi lemak outlet anyway.

During the weekends, MacDonalds has alot of customers; and that includes the breakfast period. And wow, all the seats were taken!

Okay the story starts. I was queuing for my meal, the lady in charge of the counter was serving the customers with a smile even though she was very busy moving to and fro different spots to get the food. I heard alot of “thank you” and “have a nice day” from her. I didn’t think of it as anything special till I arrived at the nasi lemak outlet.

It was there I witnessed the reverse polarity of the situation in MacDonalds.

The ladies packing the rice for the customers looked so impatient. She was packing my orders when I asked for more chilli and she sounded a little irritated over that because she was busy. But what happened next was amazing. She slowly scooped half-spoon of chilli and then proceeded to let a little drip off to make sure it was less than half spoon extra than normal.

Granted. The queue was long. She was hurrying. So appearing a little irritated over some requests is fine. But she had time to make sure I didn’t have too much chilli! I almost had the impulse to tell her, “hey I’ll pay for the additional chilli, just tell me how much THAT is worth!“. But I didn’t, of course; I didn’t want to make a scene or else I would look like an asshole, trust me.

Man, I tell you I don’t understand these people nowadays.

If you’re out to do business, do it with a smile. With passion, please. Customers love those smiles too. And at the end of the day, your customers will enjoy buying from you as much as you enjoy selling them. It’s a win-win situation. Results? Tomorrow, they will come back again. :)
