... is where Sunny Wong writes about nothing in particular and everything in general.

the First.

If you know me long enough you should have realised that I’m more of a software dude than a hardware dude; I handle with software more comfortably than I ever did with hardware, that is if I do remember handling hardware.

And the only reason is because I always believe I will have an easier time reversing mistakes with software than doing so with hardware, and for most, my belief is right. So I almost never tried taking my CPU tower apart other than just sliding the side covers off.

Just about an hour ago, EXO asked me to DotA with him and I told him about what I suspected is a hard disk problem. He reminded me about the warranty issue and I was like, “how could I have forgotten it?“! I can replace the hard disk instead of buying; that’s what warranties are for!

But no, I didn’t have the receipt of purchase. Either that or I lost it. Damned. So I called up my brother who assembled this computer for me and inquired about it and he told me that he didn’t have it either, or so he believed. But he will be confirming his statement tonight when he returns home and checks again.

EXO went on to tell me about taking the hard disk itself out to see the manufactured date. I was a little hesistating at the beginning, but anxiety conquered me — I need to know! So without even thinking about the consequences of not being able to put things back in place after I’ve ripped them apart, I proceeded with it anyway.

And I saw the sticker on it that reads the date : DATE : NOV 2002.

There was then a glimpse of hope that I can actually replace it. With the exception of my brother not being able to recover the receipt. Maybe I can still replace, but guess I’ll do with a new hard disk instead. Say, I’m thinking about 200GB, 250GB or even 320GB; the more the merrier, that’s what they say.

When it was all done, I knew I need to put them back in place. Right, that was the most exciting moment. I had a long history of being able to dismantle anything, and not being able to put them back together. It started when my curiosity of how some certain toys worked when I was like 4 years old, and they never seen daylight ever again.

So at 19 years old, I wasn’t ready to repeat that feat again. But then curiosity > worry and I went ahead to rip out the hard disk. Okay, I have to confess it isn’t that hard okay? It’s just undoing 4 screws and then plugging out some cables, but hey it is my first so let me talk a little more, will you? Don’t sneer at me! ;)

Oh, I still don’t know what is the problem with my computer anyway. It’s quite complicated and I won’t be surprised if at the end of the day it’s nothing to do with a faulty hard disk. *sighs*

Oh well, we’ll see. At least, I get to mess around with the hard disk for the first time ever since it arrived 2-3 years ago! How cool is that? ;)
