Initial D
After having watching Initial D the anime since Stage 1, today is the day that I finally get to see it in 3-dimensional actions. No more 2-dimensional characters and settings — it’s all 3-dimensional now. Real human, real cars, real drifiting and real screeching sounds of the cars. Real.
And if you hadn’t already heard of Initial D the movie, then you must have been living in a cave for the past 6 months. Why 6 months? Because if memory serves, a friend of mine, Binglin, had been making a fuss out of it ever since the beginning of the year when news of the movie’s production was on the papers, and though a little excited, I couldn’t care much yet.
Till like a month or two ago when it’s finally decided when the movie is (most likely) going to be released in the theatre that I got really excited about it. Whether it’s when the film finally started rolling in the theatre just now or just barely an hour now after the show had ended, I’m still as thrilled by the movie. I think the last show that made me felt this way was Coach Carter. No doubt.
Although it was stated in the ending credits that the movie wasn’t derived from the Initial D anime series, this movie reminded me of a lot of scenes in Stage 1 and 2 of the anime. The so familiar 45 degrees twisting of the right foot for the drifting by Takumi, the unforgettable gutter grip technique used by him and the consecutive 5 (IIRC, I thought it was 3 in the anime, though.. ) hairpins of Mt. Akina. Oh, I feel so initiateD now.
The movie kept me wanting more throughout the duration it was aired, and it ended with an possibility of part 2 which is probably going to be Stage 4 if there is one; when Takumi joins Project D. I seriously hope there’s a part 2.
Go watch it if you’re an ID fan, or not! The guys will be thrilled by the cars and racing/drifting while the ladies would be by Edison Chen. It’s a fair trade! Go get it boys!
