Project Superstars.
I’ve only slightly mentioned it in a hate-post about this Project Superstars thingy, speaking of a song that’d been re-sang too much already.
Now that the competition is finally going into the finals, one contender from each gender had been chosen to take part in it, and this is when words of unfairness flew around. What’s so wrong with the competition?
So it seems like people are thinking that the male blind finalist(with all due respects when I typed that), Chen Wei Lian Kelvin, had won because he had gained sympathy votes from the audience. And honestly I suspect these are words from people who supported Hong JunYang and they are doing this because their idol wasn’t chosen.
So what are they going to say about the winner if he wasn’t blind, or handicapped(again, with all due respect)? Say he voted for himself? Or asked his friends and families to do massive votings? C’mon all you non-handicapped citizens, spare a thought for him. Even if he had gained sympathy votes, so what? If you think sympathy votes alone could singlely-handed overwhelm the votes of the other singers, then I don’t think they are worth mentioning, are they? I won’t deny that sympathy votes will exist, but how many? 100% of ‘em?
And even if there’re quite a number of them, why don’t we look at them as votes of encouragement? It fucking takes courage to be up there and still continue when all along most comments he’d heard are people saying that he’s gone so far only because he’s the “sympathy votes guy”. For fuck’s sake, be sensitive, God gave you a pair of good eyes not so that you can judge others. If you really wish to bash the winner because your idol didn’t win, go other means, not the eye thing — he didn’t want to be blind too and he’s only pursuing his dream and you didn’t, so base on what are you judging him with? I do bashing too when I don’t get what I want, but let’s be reasonable when doing so.
So you’re saying this is a competition, and not some “encouragement programme”? Sure. I’ll think so too. Let’s see, this is a competition; which probably means the winner wins with his abilities, not because he’s blind and people sympathise with him. And let’s go a little further, will that many people vote a blind person(I can’t mean this enough, respect!) if he isn’t good to begin with? Will you (doh, of course not if you’re a JunYang supporter and a blind person basher ;))? I don’t think I will. So yes, he got the lower points of the two, but the audience votes carried 70% weightage, so there.
I’m not an avid fan of the show, but when I did hear the singing, his songs gave me goosebumps and that happens only when I hear really good things, mind you. I don’t like songs based on the singer’s good looks. If you can tell me that you’ll still support JunYang if he’s god-damned ugly then okay, you’re good but still you can’t bash someone based on their birth weakness, blindness. Besides, are you a good singer yourself to even start judging him?
So people say that a blind can’t be a superstar. Are we talking about the packaging of the person to attract record sales, or are we really looking for people who really appreciate music so they don’t judge the person’s appearance? I don’t know, the music industry is off the line (whatever that means). Now we have to package the singer in sexy dresses so they can attract market sales, wow. “Free MTVs with every album”, nice. If the singer is sexy enough, record sales boom and wham! “We’ve got a break-through in record sales this month boss!” Ha. Marketing gimmicks. Where are the real musics?
All that said, if you still think you want to bash Wei Lian and saying that he’s getting the votes because he’s being sympathised with, then I can’t say much more I guess. I’ve said whatever I want to.
“He’s good, o because he’s so handsome.” Bullshit. And you think otherwise.
PS: I can’t stress this enough, I’m only mentioning the “blind man” for emphasis and that I respect any other blind man’s rights. No discrimination and no judging. Not at all.
