... is where Sunny Wong writes about nothing in particular and everything in general.

Saw.

No I didn’t see anything, instead I watched a movie titled “Saw“. This movie was advertised to me initially by a friend who kept telling me how great the show was, but I never really had the time or friends to watch it together in the cinema so I guessed I put it at the back on my mind and missed it entirely. So yesterday while I was at my friend’s house, she came up with a list of DVDs and one of them was “Saw“, and that immediately got me excited.

After watching it, it’s finally concluded that it’s a show that kept me entertained the entire 100 minutes with a kick-ass suspense till the end, and a show that has a storyline that I can only hope I could come up with some day, magically.

That are the 2 main criterias of me judging a show. If it’s not exciting or can’t keep me entertained for most parts of it, it’s not entirely a good show. And if it has predictable plots or some storylines that I could’ve came up with when I was three, then it’s marks minused off the scoreboard too. And in case you wonder, comedies don’t need any real plot because they can keep me entertained with their (hopefully) kick ass jokes.

So this director, James Wan, and this actor, Leigh Whannell (Adam) wrote the story together, and then had it filmed into a movie. Sweet. Truth be told, this is the first time I admired some random directors and actors to this extend other than Steven Spielberg. And kudos to them for such a wonderful movie, not just some low-down movie made as though just for the revenue.

It’s a very nice horror/suspense movie that I can’t do justice by telling you the story or summarising the storyline too much without letting you into the real twist.. so I’ll just beseech everyone who’s interested and knows my expectations of shows, to actually spend 1 hour and 40 minutes watching the damn show somehow, instead of wondering how good it actually is.

And they actually have a sequel, Saw II, in store for us, though I’m a little paranoid that since it’s not by the same director it won’t be as nice as the first. But at least Leigh Whannell is still part of the writing crew, so I don’t think Saw II will suck that bad anyhow. I’ll be sure to catch it when it’s eventually in the cinema, who’s with me?

So, while the obsession is hot, Leigh Whannell and James Wan have another horror flick in 2006 coming up, titled Silence, too early to judge and too early to even find out more about it, I’ll just wait till it has some information about it on the web. This is a little advertisement for some great productions!
