... is where Sunny Wong writes about nothing in particular and everything in general.

Time wait for no man.

A few more days into the new year and boy am I excited albeit being the 20th new year I’ll be having. So what’s there to be excited you ask?

Plenty.

Growing up

Every year, among many things, we learn and experience new things through doing good deeds, as well as misdeeds; we know new friends, we settle old scores; we forgive and forget; we love and hate; we hurt, and get hurt ; we lie, we get deceived by others, and like it or not, we deceive ourselves.

If you must, we call this “growing up”.

We’ll never stop growing up, but the important thing about growing up is that we must understand and then bear in mind what’s to be done again and what’s not to be just like how Mummy used to teach us, but now we’ll have to do the guidance ourselves.

The value of a blog

Last year, barely 2 months I’d blogged I didn’t realise that a blog is really useful in recalling memories. This year, as I go through the lists of posts I’d made, I found that many things happened were forgotten.

Because I’ve made entries the entire year so this blog now serves like a down-memory-lane sort of things and I’m elated I had picked up blogging. At least now I know what I’ve been working on, among many other things. And chances are, I’ll continue this habit.

A meaningful life

Instead of writing a new year resolution, or writing a list of things I want to, I’ll tell you how I want to live my life instead.

Every year I want to do things that are meaningful. And no, contrary to many, going out with friends, having fun and such are by no means meaningful. Recently, I’ve started reading a book that quotes a personal mission statement, or as what I understand to be as having a meaningful life:

To laugh often and much; to win the respect and intelligent people and the affection of children: to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave this world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social conditon: to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.

Where will your journey lead to?, Dr Thomas J. Barry, 1996

I don’t know if I’ve acheived it, but I’m trying. Have you?

As for 2006…

It’s time to put behind the deeds I’ve done in 2005 and move forward into 2006, where new things are waiting to happen.

Afterall, I’m growing up.

Update: Going out with friends is fun and fulfilling, just that it can’t be compared when I’m talking about life-time long of accomplishments, if you get what I mean. I think I’ve misphrased the entire thing, my bad.

Action would ofcourse speak louder than words, instead of writing here, please do something to prove you are growing up..

Like I said, I’ll see if I can follow the book and live out the personal mission statement! That’s growing up! At least in my book that is but thanks for your reminder!
