Short circuit.
No, not the canteen in Temasek Polytechnic. It’s the real deal. And it’s not exactly exciting when it happens in the middle of your sleep, stopping all electric supplies to the very-important-household-appliances-then such as the fan, or the air-conditioner. And then you start to break sweat as though you’re trapped in a very big oven that’s been switched on.
Nobody else who was capable of handling this catastrophic event was at home then, and if it were the lazy me a few months ago, I suspect I would’ve slept through till someone actually returns home and bothers to fix it. But no, it didn’t take long before I realised that the fish tank filter that I’d spent weeks cultivating wouldn’t survive without the constant flow of tank water. Weighing between fixing the short circuit and actually scooping water back into the filter manually, the former wins hands down (not without a tough fight though).
Bahh, besides it wouldn’t take long to fix it — just get out of the bed, drag myself to the living room with a chair, stand on it, try and stablise myself on the chair, open that circuit box, find the One Tick To Switch All On, and slap it up — which is rather an easy process albeit being a little too many sub-processes. So I did just that and if you’re smart enough to have read the entire post, you should realise the power is back up and so I’m back online.
Now the only possible issue left is whether the beneficial bacteria in the filter medium would survive. Hopefully they would or else the weeks I spent maintaining the initial tank cycling stage would go to waste, and worse of all, I would have to restart the process; which is crap as I almost can’t wait to add new fishes (and I have a list!)
Oh, and I still wonder what triggered the event, though. But I’ll just resume my beauty sleep because there’s probably nothing I could do anyway. Leave this tough job for the pros when I eventually inform my parents about it.
Nights!
