The Da Vinci Code
I didn’t read the novel prior to watching the movie. But according to what I heard (from friends), the adaptation was done pretty faithfully with the exceptions of missing certain explanations which would have made the story more convincing.
About the movie itself, I totally dig Sophie’s French accent which is so bloody sexy. And towards the end of the film when the ultimate truth dawned upon Robert, that music piece played added a very holy touch to what was on the screen. Other than that, I have not much comments about the screenplay or the cast since I was pretty much occupied joining the ideas Dan Brown had presented in the show throughout the 2.5 hours to be bothered by anything else.
Back to the story itself, let me tell you: Make no mistake, the plot is a work of a genius. Even I am pretty much convinced that whatever ideologies Dan Brown had brought forward in his story are the facts because the explanation given for every mystery is too reasonably logical to be picked on. I’m no historian nor a Christian so you might think it’s not a great feat I’m bought over, but still I consider myself to be a very scientific person who nitpicks logic.
And yes, though I know this is a fictional work and contains much historical errors(as claimed by many), it’s really difficult to deny it’s one of the greatest (if not the best) in its field.
Just for the mysteries alone, it’s worth the time and money to be sitting there in the theatre watching the characters uncovering them one by one, till the very end when Robert kneeled solemnly “in front” of Mary Magdalene’s sarcophagus (though some might argue reading the story brings more satisfaction, your mileage may vary).
Finally, I believe I won’t be watching (or in rare cases, reading) any suspense flick that comes close for a while.
