I scaled Bukit Timah Hill
Update: As mentioned, we went back on monday to bring Pat around. The attempt to clear the 10.2km trail to MacRitchie Reservior failed because I reminded them that at the rate we were covering the distance it would be night when we reached there and we would miss the original destination. So we headed back. So nothing new because we were really just being tour guides. Oh, we saw a very unique tree that looked really like The World Tree from Warcraft 3, but I missed the shot. :/
I couldn’t have hiked Bukit Timah Hill alone, I did it with a friend. One whom would not think that I’m mad and have too much time on hand to be doing this! Thanks to him for accompanying me but I’m sure he had his share of fun too. ;)
So here we go, into the lush greenery.
As we were searching for a clear view to view the quarry, we found ourselves right under the towers.
Still that place didn’t provide a clear view of the quarry. I strongly believed the quarry would now be a very beautiful lake with picturesque cliff edges alongside it. So I had to get a clear view, the other places could not cut it because there were just too many trees blocking the scenery. No good.
At long last, after detouring around several steep slopes, we arrived at the Seraya Hut, ventured almost beyond the safety limits to get a less-than-satisfactory view of this beauty. I don’t know about you, but I have a thing for such sceneries.
At the same place, Eric notified me to a green snake resting on a tree branch, perfectly camouflaged in its surrounding. I couldn’t resist a shot, so here it is.
One of the things that you don’t have to worry about while being in this nature reserve is the lack of water. There’re running streams of water everywhere, feel free to collect some for your perusal.
Just kidding. I don’t think the water even looked safe for consumption. But Eric mentioned he wanted to wash his face with the water, I think. Or I did, I can’t remember.
But anyway, it was beginning to drizzle again so Eric hurried me to our next destination. You see, he was the topographer for the day. And trust me, you would not want him planning the route for you with a map on Bukit Timah Hill. I know I wouldn’t if I have to choose again. Oh well but again either him or me, let it be him then.
After changing our plan a few times, I soon realised it was getting dark at around 6pm and rain clouds were gathering. As we were cutting through the forest following the jungle trails instead of the main road, we panicked. You bet we did because we didn’t bring torches and the jungle was getting impatient with all the sounds of beasts. Some parts of the forest under the thick canopy looked especially eerie for us first timers.
It didn’t take too long before the downpour arrived and we panicked even more. Soon we were soaked to the bones but it was one hell of a fun time. And after finally leaving the eerie dark forest and making sure our electronic assets were protected from suffering the same fate as we did(that explains the lack of photographs for the descriptions beyond), we just strolled down the main road. The ankle-deep water gushing down the path was magnificient to look at and cooling to tread on. We even walked barefooted! Boy, was that a great experience.
The only problems that occured was that we didn’t have enough water and we wore slippers. Haha. And we didn’t cover the reservior bridge(trail) walks which is really a pity. I think we are gonna go there again on Monday if someone doesn’t stand us up. We’ll see. I’ll be sure to take more photographs then. :-)
A great day otherwise spent lazing around at home. Meep.
