Once again, some douchebags decided that hotlinking images from other servers, efficiently leeching bandwidth/data transfer is cool. Funny how the world never seems to run out of these people. Last year there were a few turkeys who did the same with my dancing hippo video clip and I ended up exceeding my allocated bandwidth by alot. I was lucky I didn’t have to pay for the excess or I’ll be surviving solely on dust for months.

These people had simply attached the URL of my image into their CSS as their background for their profile pages, no thanks to the convenience made possible by the tool EditFriendster provides.

Problem solved

Now call me ruthless, I don’t care if they knew hotlinking is a bad netiquette or not. The fact remains that they are indeed thieves leeching off me and I have the rights to do anything in my power to defend my loss of services. Okay, enough of guilt-alleviating self-consolation(I know I’m still a bad ass), let’s get down to business. Thanks to a post on Digg I had this sudden revelation about how I could avenge myself. Big time.

Okay maybe not, I’ll go mild this time. My original idea was a gay porn image(NSFW: you’ve been warned!) in place of the original stolen one. Now just imagine the look on the visitors’ faces when they chance upon these users’ profile pages tiled with such beautiful image, would you? Hell, just think of yours when you see one.

But whatever, guilty conscience strikes so I’ll just put up a image that reads “I SUCK FOR STEALING BANDWIDTH OFF DRACO.DEVSYNC.NET!1!1!!” instead. Still bad ass, but better than the resort I mentioned earlier for sure. :-) Now I feel benevolent. Anyway, if somehow they still don’t get the hint, I’ll consider them warned and proceed with step 2 — the mentioned method.

They should have found the image on my server through Google Images. And because they are using an image(eg: abc.jpg showing a cute bear) hosted on my server, when I change it to another one using the same filename (still abc.jpg
but now showing a gay ass), they’ll be using (and seeing) the new image. I merely replaced the original image with a new one, and in this case, it’s the “i suck” thingy. Get me?

Haha yes, when I book out and they don’t change, then I’ll have to use the gay porn image. :) Just stay tuned!
