Clearance to proceed.
Update:Alas! He couldn’t make it through the week and I’m just back from his wake; funeral procession takes place this sunday.
Not too long back, a relative of mine was admitted into the hospital diagnosed with some terminal illnesses. He wasn’t in the best of health then, and eventually slipped into comatose. Well, from there it doesn’t take a genius to figure that he was in a very critical stage and required intensive medical care immediately.
That said, any sane management should put him into ICU right away, shouldn’t they? Nope, at least not what I gathered. Because yesterday I received a call from the hospital with the doctor on the other end sounding very urgent, looking for my father (who is the patient’s brother) to make a decision. A clearance to proceed with sustaining the life of my uncle immediately.
I don’t know how the management works (or why they are doing this) and I’m currently too infuriated to find out but that sounds so inane to me. Even if it’s a financial issue, isn’t sustaining a life first priority no matter what? Man, it gives me the shudder just thinking my uncle could be left in the ward unattended during the time the doctor was looking high and low for someone who could make the call.
At any rate, it was good that they finally found another uncle of mine (well my father wasn’t available at the moment of call) who decided that they should do what they could to maintain my uncle’s life (thank God!). Though things still aren’t looking good till this day, at least there’s still hope.
And hope is good.
