Avoid these 3 problems on your site/blog!

Using 10-11px font-size. Does reading text of this size makes the reading more fun or sexier?
Not to me. Why small when you can have it large and clear? I’m pretty sure most others are on 17″ and with a resolution of at least 1024×768. 11px font-size is so 1990s and makes reading difficult if not impossible.
Hell, drop
pxand start usingemalready. And start big. -
Embedding music. So I’m on your blog, and your music loads. I decide to visit another page (eg. your about page or archive), then the music starts all over again. I don’t know about you, but I’ll be pretty irritated everytime it happens.
Okay fine, it’s your blog so if you must add some sort of entertainment, at least make sure the method of implementation could be friendlier, no? Provide a way to disable or pause the playing of the song.
Miao Juan chose to do so using Flash, and it’s pretty comfortable since there’s an indication that something is loading. No flash? No problem, you don’t hear it but you still get to read the content of her blog without the luxury of her music recommendations.
And don’t use
embedorbgsoundwithout indications of the loading song. -
Using
display:noneand then Javascript to toggle their visibilities. Once I had to show Eric something on his handheld, and I realised I couldn’t because there was no proper CSS and javascript implementations in the browser. Dang, I missed the chance to show him the really funny post on Wendy’s blog. What a pity. Of course she wouldn’t mind, but what if one day you need to retrieve your own information from your blog?
Well, just in case you care.
